Barbering from the Ground Up: Inside Our Apprenticeship Program

At Il Mulino, we don’t just cut hair—we build careers. For those looking to become licensed barbers in a real-world, high-standard environment, our Barber Apprenticeship Program offers more than just training. It’s mentorship, accountability, & hands-on experience—all under one roof.

If you’re serious about the craft, here’s what sets our program apart.

What Is a Barber Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a state-regulated path to licensure that allows you to earn your hours & experience on the job. It’s ideal for learners who thrive in fast-paced, hands-on environments.

Our apprenticeship is designed to:

  • Teach real client interactions from day one

  • Build technical skill through repetition and feedback

  • Offer mentorship with experienced, licensed Master Barbers

  • Prepare students to pass the state board exam with confidence

Why Choose Il Mulino?

We’re not your typical barbershop—and this isn’t your average apprenticeship.

Here’s what you get with us:

  • Mentorship That Matters

Our licensed barbers don’t just supervise—they teach. Apprentices get direct coaching, weekly check-ins, and ongoing support tailored to their growth.

  • High Standards, Real Feedback

You’ll learn how to deliver a great fade, how to talk to clients, how to clean your tools properly—and why every detail matters.

  • A Shop Culture That Pushes You to Grow

Il Mulino is about showing up, getting better, and taking pride in your work. You’ll be surrounded by people who take the craft seriously—and want you to do the same.

  • Built-In Career Opportunity

Finish your apprenticeship strong, and there may be a chair waiting for you. We love to grow our team from within.

What You’ll Learn

During the apprenticeship, you’ll master:

  • Fades, tapers, shear work, and beard detailing

  • Straight razor technique and sanitation

  • Client communication + time management

  • Shop etiquette and station upkeep

  • How to build a clientele from the ground up

Program Requirements + Timeline

  • State registration required before start

  • 18–24 month commitment, depending on availability and progress

  • Consistent schedule and attendance are expected

We’ll guide you through the licensing process and help keep you on track the whole way.

Ready to Get Started?

If you’re motivated, coachable, and ready to take barbering seriously, we’d love to talk. This apprenticeship isn’t for everyone—but for the right person, it’s the launchpad of a lifetime.

Apprenticeship spots are limited, and we’re intentional about who we bring on. If that sounds like your kind of environment, reach out. Let’s build your future together.
