The Craft Begins Here

Inside Il Mulino’s Apprenticeship Program

At Il Mulino, we believe mastering the art of barbering takes more than talent—it takes mentorship, grit, & a place where ambition is met with opportunity. Our Apprenticeship Program is built for those who are ready to roll up their sleeves, sharpen their skills, & start building a career in a high-level, real-world barbershop environment.

Whether you're fresh to the industry or finally ready to turn your passion into a profession, this program is where it begins.

No Experience? No Problem.

What we’re looking for isn’t a résumé stacked with licenses or years behind a chair—it’s drive. We welcome applicants from all walks of life, especially those with strong customer service experience or a genuine desire to grow into that strength.

We’ll guide you from the basics through the finesse, offering you hands-on education from seasoned barbers who know what it takes to thrive in this craft.

Flexibility Meets Focus

We get it—life’s busy. That’s why our Apprenticeship Program is built to accommodate full-time obligations without compromising the quality of your training. We'll work with you to create a flexible schedule that lets you learn the ropes while still keeping your balance.

Our Process: How We Choose the Next Generation

We’re proud of our selective approach. Only 5–10% of applicants are accepted, which means every apprentice earns their seat—and every mentor can give their full attention. Here’s what our vetting process looks like:

1. Consultation & Review

We start with a conversation. We want to understand your customer service mindset, your work ethic, and your passion for barbering.

2. Motivation Matters

You'll complete a short questionnaire that helps us understand your story, your goals, and your commitment to learning. It’s not just paperwork—it’s insight.

3. The Interview

If your consultation stands out, we’ll invite you in for a one-on-one. This isn’t your typical job interview—it’s an open, honest talk about your future, what we offer, and whether this path feels right for both of us.

What We’re Really Looking For

We’re not just looking for someone who can hold a clipper—we’re looking for future professionals. Here’s what sets an ideal apprentice apart:

  • A genuine interest in barbering and the people behind the chair

  • A service-first mindset and a readiness to learn

  • Curiosity, commitment, and consistency

  • Alignment with our core values and culture

A Few Things to Know

Full-time commitment is preferred. If you’re transitioning from another role but have a plan in place, we’ll still consider your application.

The program is competitive. We prioritize quality over quantity to maintain a high standard of training and mentorship.

This is a professional community. We’re building more than barbers—we’re building leaders, educators, and people who take pride in elevating the craft.

And one last important note:

All apprentices are required to register with the New York Department of State’s Division of Licensing Services (as outlined in Article 28 of the General Business Law). This step must be completed before any hands-on work begins.

Ready to Start?

If this feels like your calling, let’s talk. Because here, you're not just learning how to cut hair—you're learning how to build a legacy.
